- In the book ?History of the State of Kansas? by William G. Cutler part 18 on Doniphan County, Elwood Biographic Sketches Washington Township, the following was written:
FREDERICK BREISING, merchant, Wathena. This popular citizen and enterprising business man is a native of Illinois, and was born February 1, 1852. His parents were early settlers in Doniphan County, locating in 1859; here Fred. has been reared and educated. For a number of years he has been identified with the commercial interests of Wathena. He is a clever gentleman, widely and well known.

In the book ?History of Butler Co. Kansas? By Vol. P. Mooney 1916 it states that ?Whitewater incorporated in 1889 (1890 incorporation notice). Fred Breising Sr. was one of the 1st councilmen and he started the 1st butcher shop. A small framed building just south of Neuman Hardware was built by Fred Breising Sr. called ?WHITEWATER MEAT MARKET.?
