Norman Brewster enlisted as a private in Co. L, 3rd Ohio Cavalry in September, 1861. He served three years and four months, was present at battles of Stone River, Iuka, Perryville, Rowlets station, Chicamaugua, Missouri Ridge, Lookout Mountain, and was in the advance with the command which released Burnside from his bad fix at Knoxville, Tenn., was also in many skirmishes, was gradually promoted to 1st Lieutenant.
