Kaufman, Esther (Pauls)



Esther Pauls Kaufman went to be with the Lord on Friday (June 4, 2010), surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 18, 1926, in Inman, to Henry and Margaret Pauls.

She married Edward J. Kaufman on Oct. 12, 1958. They lived in Alta Mills until 1962, when they moved to what now is known as Kaufman corner in Newton. Esther loved baking, cooking, sewing, gardening and canning. She made numerous quilts for loved ones, along with donating several of them to the MCC Relief Auction. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially gardening, fishing and playing games with her grandson. She was very active with the church, teaching Sunday school, summer Bible school and children’s church.

She is survived by a daughter, Verlene (husband Kim Keazer); son, Jerry (wife Wanda); son, Arlen (wife Karla Steele); and grandson, Justin Keazer. She also is survived by a brother, Dewayne (wife Betty) Pauls; sister, Lorene (husband Al) Issacs; sister, Marilyn (husband Pete) Fleming; sister-in-law, Elda Kaufman; sister-in-law, Helen (Kaufman) Klaassen; brother-in-law, Marvin Kaufman (wife Doloris); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband, Edward J. Kaufman; and parents, Henry A. and Marie Pauls.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen’s Funeral Home in Newton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Mennonite Church in Newton. Memorials may be made to First Mennonite Church in Newton or Kidron Bethel Village.
