Crum, Marvin

Marvin L. Crum, 82, died Wednesday (June 2, 2010) at the Cedars in McPherson. He was born on Jan. 14, 1928, in Liberty, Mo., to William Arthur Crum and Albert Parker Crum.

Marvin attended William Jewell College in Liberty, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. e served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947, in the Japan Occupational Forces. He married Mary Louise Downing on Nov. 11, 1951, in Liberty. He lived in McPherson since 1975, and served as vice president, president and chairman of the board of People’s Bank in McPherson. He retired in 1991. He was a former resident of Newton, having served as mayor for one term. He was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, of the home; son, Joe Crum of Smyrna, Ga.; daughter, Carol Crum of Lincoln, Neb.; brother, Frank Crumb of Liberty; sisters, Minnie Irminger of Liberty and Ruth Coates of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in McPherson with the Rev. Les Cantrell presiding.
Memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, First Baptist Church or First Christian Church in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home in McPherson.
