Lester L. Shirk, 81, retired manager for Beechcraft, died Sunday (May 30, 2010) at his residence. He was born on Dec. 12, 1928, in Sedgwick, to Clarence LeRoy and Edith (Montgomery) Shirk.

He was a member, deacon and elder of Sedgwick Christian Church, a charter member of the Sedgwick Lions Club and served for 19 years on the Sedgwick School Board. On Aug. 16, 1947, he married Phyllis Diane Purkey in Wichita. She died on Oct. 23, 1988. On Jan. 5, 1991, he married Jorena Phillips Pulaski in Sedgwick. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include sons, Larry Shirk of Wichita, Jeff Shirk of Sedgwick, and Lanny (Terrie) Shirk of Midlothian, Texas; stepsons, Kenneth Pulaski Jr. and Jeff (Angela) Pulaski of Sedgwick; brother, Clarence (Maxine) Shirk of Sedgwick; a sister, Phyllis Clark of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by brothers Paul and Lawrence Shirk.

Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Sedgwick Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sedgwick Christian Church, with Chaplain Peter Hartman and Martin Tibbetts presiding.
Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
Memorials may be given to Sedgwick Christian Church or Hospice Care of Kansas, both in care of Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead.
