Adams, James



Jamas W. Adams was born in Harrison county, Indiana September 14,1840. When the civil war broke out he was attending DePauw university and on the 15th day of August 1862 he enlisted in Company H of the 66th Regiment of Indiana Infantry and served his country at the front untlil June 6th, 1865 when he was honorably discharged as a corporal. He married Elizabeth Ellis Coble June 20th, 1869. To this union seven children were born.

After his service in the civil was he apent twenty years in public school teaching, being associated for a number of ;years with one who was at that time the oldest school teacher in the United States. He was made a Mason At Hardinsburg, Indiana over 35 years ago and was a member of the dexter lodge. He was elder and treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church of Newton Kansas.
