LaVERN, CALIF. — .Clyde Delbert Havens, 76, died Friday (Sept. 4, 2009) at his home in LaVern, Calif.

He was born on April 2, 1933, in Newton to Howard C. and Lucia (Sattler) Havens of Newton.

On Feb. 10, 1959, he married Shirley Leopold. She survives of the home.

He grew up in Newton. Clyde entered the U.S. Army in 1952. He worked for the Kansas State Highway Department out of Newton, Santa Fe Trailway Truck Shop in Wichita and retired from Detroit Diesel in the City of Industry, Calif.

Clyde loved Sprint Car Racing and was owner of a racing team with the California Racing Association.

Other survivors include four sons, Greg and Victoria Havens of Temecula, Calif., Ward Havens, and Jimmie and Valerie Havens, all of South Pole, Alaska, and Barry and Trisha Havens of Newton; four daughters, Linda Goebel of Omaha, Neb., Lisa and Rudy Ybarra of Ione, Calif., and Dianne and Bob Nelsen, and Karen and Joe Rios all of LaVern; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Phyllis and Otto Lehrman of Westcliffe, Colo., JoBeth and Phil Wood of Wichita, and Marilyn and Bob Brickell, Helen and Wayne Partridge, and Sandy and Julian Wall, all of Newton; three brothers, Larry and Judy of Westmoreland, Calif., and Harold and Dawn Havens, and Virgil Havens, all of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Havens, and three sisters, Janice Havens, Shirley George and Brenda Porter, all of Newton.
