Cowan,

History

With his parents he moved to Illinois and later to Buchanan county, Iowa. The west seemed to keep calling them so they came to Kansas in the autumn of 1870 when teams of oxen were the common mode of travel and buffalo and cow-boys roamed the prairies; therefore we say he was a pioneer. He never married and he spent his bachelorhood at his home on section twelve, Sedgwick township since 1870. Brothers Andrew, Robert, William and Henry, one sister Sarah.
