Mrs. E. Pearl Souder, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E. B. Packer, was born in Osage City, Kansas on November 18, 1880 and passed away May 18, 1948 at the Bethel Deaconess hospital, Newton.

Her early years were spent in Osage City, where she graduated from high school. She was also a graduate of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Kansas. She and her father owned and conducted a drug store in Osage City many years.

In March, 1914, she was united in marriage to the late Alvah L. Souder of Newton, coming to Newton at once, which has been her home ever since. Mr. Souder passed away in 1936. Since that time, she has made her home at 205 East Second street, with Mr. and Mrs. Chester Doles.

Mrs. Doles, a cousin of Mr. Souder, has taken the part of a devoted daughter, giving of her companionship through the years and devoting her time and attention to her through her illness. Mrs. Souder had been in failing health the last year, undergoing a serious operation some six months ago, but with loving care and her determined will, she retained her interest in everything until the last.

Mrs. Souder united with the Presbyterian church in Osage City in her youth. She was a member of many organizations, always giving willingly of her time and strength; a leader and able member. Among them was, Social Order of Beauceant, O. E. S., Relief Corps and Rebekahs. She was past president of Auxiliary Patriarch Militant I. O. O. F. Also active in Themian and several other clubs and helped organize the first Farm Bureau unit in harvey county. She never lost her interest in these organizations and her counsel, help and advice will be missed by them all.

A sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Mae Souder and her son Marvin, Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Childs of Corpus Christi, Texas, cousins of Mr. Souder with Mrs. Doles are the only surviving relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, Newton, Friday, May 21, 1948 at 10 a.m., and was attended bya large number of sorrowing friends. Casket Bearers were Messrs. Floyd Smith, W. J. Israel, Leslie Bilyeu, G. G. Wright, Norvin Souder and W. J. Sage. Entombment was made in Greenwood Abby.
