Gravel, Joseph

History

Born at Saint Joseph, Canada. When he was eight years old the family moved to Beaverville, Illinois, he was one of six children, four sons and two daughters, born to George and Julionia Gravel.

Joseph married Salina Carifel in February, 1864. They had thirteen children.

He served in the Civil War, having enlisted in Co. B, 134th Ills., volunteer infantry, in which he served to the close of the war, being honorably discharged December 15, 1864. The family came to Kansas in 1879, locating on a farm in McPherson county, moving from there to Newton in 1892, where the wife and mother passed away October 15, 1918. He was employed by the city of Newton for several years.
