Aug 25, 1919. Nancy Calfee Black, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Calfee was born May 20, 1835 in the state of Indiana, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to John P. Black Dec. 12, 1854. There were born to this union four children, Geo. W., Chas. F., John H. and Sarah A., [Mrs. Brown], none of whom are now living. Mrs. Black moved with her husband from Indiana to Henderson county, Illinois, in the spring of 1878. From there went to Clark county, Iowa. In 1888 they came to Kansas locating in Graham county, and finally in 1890 they came to Newton and have since resided in this community. Mrs. Black was a devoted member of the Christian church from childhood and she died in the faith. She passed away at Bethel hospital August 15, 1919, having lived only one month and six days after the death of her husband. Mrs. Black leaves to mourn for her a step-daughter Mrs. Abernathy of Rushville, Ind., and 12 grand-children besides her many friends.The Newton Kansan
