John Branson Elliott was born Aug. 23, 1844, in the state of north Carolina and at an early age, moved, to Indiana with his parents, John H. and Caroline Millikan Elliott, settling in New Castle, Henry Co. , Ind.

He was married to Julia A. Crandall of that city Dec. 30, 1869, and seven children were born to them, Omar, Emma, Nellie, Florence and Orval. Two children preceded him in death, Carl and Ina.

The family moved to Kansas in the early nineties, residing on a farm south of Newton several years, afterward moving to Newton. Mr. Elliott operated the Globe hotel for a few years, when he moved with his family to St. Louis Mrs. Elliott passed away in 1896 and was laid to rest here in Greenwood cemetery.

Mr. Elliott was a minister in his early manhood in Indiana. He was a member of the Red Men and of the Knights of Pythias.

He was married a second time at Emporia in 1925 and his widow and six children survive. He was a kind and loving disposition quite and unassuming. During the last few years he devoted much time to his home and garden, and won the respect of his neighbors and many friends in Emporia.

He became ill a few weeks ago and was taken to the Newman hospital of Emporia where he passed away Monday, Oct. 14. He was brought here and funeral services were conducted at Greenwood cemetery, Oct. 17, He was 91 years one month and 21 days o
