Albrecht, John Fred

Kansan

Kansan, Tuesday, April 17, 1934

John Fred Albrecht was born November 7, 1863, at Neuteicherswalde, West Prussia, his parents being John Albrercht and Catherine Albrercht, nee Behrend. He was the third oldest of four children. At the age of fourteen he was confirmed in the Evangelical church. When nineteen years of age he came to America, spending some time in the state of New York. Coming to Kansas, he spent a year in Walton, then located to Newton where he was in the employ of the Santa Fe for a number of years.

On November 25, 1888, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Schirrmacher. This union was blessed with three children.

In 1903 they located in Macon township, adjoining the Newton water works, which continued to be their home and where many happy years were spent. He was a very devoted husband and father, seldom ever away from home, or the companion, who shared with him in his joy and sorrows during the 45 years of their wedded life.

His desire to always serve his neighbors endeared him in the hearts of them all, making many lasting friends for him, who during his last illness were ready at all times to be of service to him and loving wife. All of them will greatly miss his presence in the community.

Shortly after moving to the farm, they united with the Methodist church in Halstead, at which place he continued to worship when his health would permit.

In October of 1932 he was taken seriously ill, having to undergo two operations. While never in robust health he was able to go about his work in his usual manner. In January of 1934, he was stricken with pneumonia. While seriously ill, God spared him for a Season. But in spite of medical skill and constant care of his loving wife and children, three weeks ago he was again taken ill, from which he never recovered, and he passed never recovered, and passed peacefully to his reward at the close of day Friday.

There is left to mourn his going, his dear widow and three children, Mrs. Charles Saunders of Newton, Mrs. George Rutherford and Harry W. Albrecht of Halstead.

Funeral services for Mr. Albrecht were conducted at the Methodist church in Halstead Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Gale officiated. Pallbearers were Fritz Rodenberg, Roll Ginter, Emery Biggerstaff, Hays hobble, Harry Huffman and Henry Myers
