Fe Brakemen Received Terrible Injuries

--Ira Dies From His Injuries In Two Hours.

--Bosworth May Recover

Meager accounts of a terrible railway accident which occurred near Spearville, in the western part of the state on the Santa Fe railroad, were received in this city Tuesday, but nothing definite was ascertained until the belated morning train reached the city at five o'clock that evening, when it was learned that Elmer Ira and Geo. S. Bosworth had been crushed between the cars while trying to make a coupling.

From different sources it was learned that Bosworth was braking for McGrath, and Ira, who was braking for Baxter, were trying to couple an engine to the caboose of one of the trains that were stuck in a snow drift for the purpose of pulling them out. The platform of the caboose was weak and dropped down and the two men took hold of it to raise it up and get the draw bar on a level with the draw bar of the engine, but their strength was inadequate, and the engine's draw bar passed over the one on on the caboose, thus crushing the two unfortunate men between the car and the platform around the engine. They were instantly extricated and taken into the car and made as comfortable as possible until the first passenger train passed, on which they were placed and started on their journey home. The injuries of Mr. Ira were more fatal than those of Mr. Bosworth, and he died in about two hours after the accident happened. Both gentlemen received severe internal injuries, but Mr. Bosworth seems on a fair way to recovery.

The remains of Mr. Ira were taken to his home on East First street. The funeral was held from the First Baptist church yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. W. M. Barker conducting the service. He was a member of the Order of Railway Trainmen, as was also Mr. Bosworth.
