Havens, Floyd

History

Floyd was born in Danville, Mi. to Charles V and Eliza Jane[Ewers]Havens.Abt 1878 Floyd and his parents and brother Clyde traveled by covered wagon to Sterling, Ks.Floyd's father was a photogapher and had a studio in Sterling as well as farming.Floyd lost his mother Eliza when he was 13 he learned hard work on the family farm and in 1904 with his marriage to Pearl DeWalt They built a home in Newton,Ks.They raised eight children here.He worked for the railroad for a time . He worked for the city of Newton from 1928 to 1954 He was in charge of the city parks and planted many trees and flowers some from his on yard in the parks .after his retirement a park at 12th and oak street was named" Havens Park" in his honor. Even after his retirement Floyd still could be found takeing care of his parks.
