Word was received by Mrs. Helen Smolt, telling of the death of her brother, A. P. Glendening, a former resident of Newton. Mr. Glendening passed away in the Northern Pacific hospital in Tacoma, Washington, after a very brief illness. He was a railway station agent for over 40 years.

Services will be held in Tacoma today, Monday, and cremation will follow. The urn will be received by Duff and Son and interment will be made in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery.

Mrs. C. B. Warkentine, another sister, will arrive today from her home in Kansas City, Missouri.

A simple commitment service for the late Arthur P. Glendening was conducted in the presence of his sisters, Mrs. A. E. Smolt and Mrs. Carl Warkentine, at Greenwood cemetery, Friday evening, April 16. Rev. J. D. Schmidt of the First Congregational church was the officiating minister as Duff and Son directed the interment of the urn in the Glendening family plot.

Mrs. Glendening was detained at the home in Auburn, Washington because of illness, and has the care and comfort of her son Harlow.

Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Glendening came to Newton from Columbus, Wisconsin, with their young family when Arthur was fifteen years of age. He took advantage of the limited school facilities which Newton had to offer at the time, then took a business course which fitted him for his life work.

He held positions with the Santa Fe in the offices and as station agent, and was married in Wichita to Miss Myrtle McPherson, who with their son survive him.

Of late years the home has been in the northwest where both father and son have held responsible positions with the Northern Pacific.

Mr. Glendening returned to Newton on many occasions to visit his relatives and there are many old time friends who were always happy to greet him and who regret his passing.

Of the family who came from Wisconsin to Newton, only Mrs. Smolt and Mrs. Warkentine remain, the parents, a sister and another brother having gone on before.
