Walker, Pauline Rickman

May Pauline Walker, 100, died Thursday ( April 13, 2006 ) at her home where, she had lived for 30 years. She was born the seventh child of Japheth P. and Kizzie Ann Clark Rickman on August 17, 1905, in Valley Center. When she was a teenager, the family moved into a home her father buildt in Newton, She attended school in Newton and later operated a beauty salon with her sister, Lucy, prior to her marriage to Edward W. Walker on on Aug. 5, 1937. In 1945, she moved to a small farm south of Nickerson, residing there until Eddie's passing May 28, 1974. She was a very active and faithful member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Survivors include: a son, Edward W. Jr. of Hutchinson; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by: three brothers, Clifford, Theodore and Lawrence Rickman; and four sisters, Bertha Rickman, Fontella Anderson, Lucy Offutt and Helen Work. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson. Funeral service will be 10 a..m. Tuesday at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev. Cornelius N. Austin Jr. officiating. Following cremation, interment will be at Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery in Nickerson at a later date. Taken from the Newton Kansan 4-17-06
