Angood, William

The Newton Kansan

Kansan, Tuesday, December 23, 1930

The funeral services for Willam Angood, 73 year old banker of Colorado Springs, were held on Friday, December 19 at the home. Services were private and burial was in Evergreen cemetery near Colorado Springs.

Mr. Angodd was the brother of the late F. J. Angood, on Thursday morning at ten o'clock, one hour before the family received the message telling of the death of his brother. The local man became unconscious immediately up on being stricken and never knew of the death of his only brother.

William Angood was a pioneer of Harvey county. He was a rider of the Pony Express here in the early days. Later he moved to Hesston where he put up the first windmill in Harvey county. He raised fine horses and got quite a name for selling horses to the fire departments in large cities in the early days before the time of horseless wagons. He was married to a Harvey count girl, formerly Miss Effie E. Prouty, daughter of Simon H. Prouty who lived with the Angoods for 34 years. The farm they resided on near Hesston was still owned by Mr. Angood at the time of his death. The family moved to Colorado Springs in 1902 and Mr. Angood was one of the first residents of that city to own an automobile. He became associated with the First national bank of that city where he was greatly loved. It was said of him that he grew the most beautiful roses in the city in his own back yard.

On March 2 of this year he and his wife, who survives, celebrated their golden anniversary. He leaves, besides his wife, one daughter, Mrs. John Gast, who with her husband, have made their home with her parents.

It was with added sorrow to the family of Willaim Angood that the day they buried her husband and father, his only brother died here in Newton.
