Richard Henry Akers, 58, draftsman at the former Hesston Corp., died Dec. 24, 2000, at St. Francis of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. He was born Jan. 30, 1942, to Howard Brooks and Opal Edna (Arf) Akers in Newton. His father preceded him in death. Survivors include: his mother; a son, R. Dwayne Akers of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Diona Polanowski of Baltimore, Md., and Diana Fasbender of Goddard; two brothers, Donald Akers of Alabama and Darrel Akers of Highland Home, Ala.; a sister, Karen Curry of Wichita; and eight grandchildren. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton with the Rev. Ronald Gloe officiating. Memorials have been established with the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
