Allendorf, Christian

After a brief attack of pneumonia, Christian Allendorf passed away yesterday morning [12-28-1898]. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. Services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. A. Beatty, after which the Masonic rites will be pronounced by Magnolia Lodge.

Christian Allendorf was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, sixty one years ago. He came to the United States in 1854, and four years afterwards, enlisted in the First Regiment, U. S. Artillery. He served his five years and received an honorable discharge. He followed contracting after the war, locating in New Orleans and afterwards going to Pensacola, Florida. From there he came to Newton in 1884. For the last twelve years, he has been with the Santa Fe, in the B. & B. department.

April 18, 1864, he was married to Mrs. Sarah French. In 1887, he joined the Masonic fraternity, and has ever since been a valued member. He was a member of the Magnolia Lodge, which will conduct the last and sad rites over the lifeless clay. He was also a member of Arkansas Valley Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, and Newton Chapter No. 5, Order of the Eastern Star. He joined Judson Kilpatrick Post G.A.R., in 1887; he also belonged to Santa Fe Lodge National reserve Association.
