Son of Thomas and Anne (Shothran) Fagan. He married Catherine Kerins Sept. 8, 1893 in Denver, Colorado.
They had 5 children, Joseph, Frank, Frederick, George and Gertude Fagan.

Obituary, Monday, Nov. 19, 1928, Newton Republican, Newton, Kansas

James J. Fagan was born in Mexico, Missouri, May 9, 1865. He was a pioneer settler of Newton, Kansas having come here in 1874. He was married to Miss Catherine Kerin, Sept. 8, 1893 in Denver, Colorado and the home to which he brought his bride was the one in which he passed a way on Saturday, Nov. 10, 1928, after an illness of three days.

Mr. Fagan was a Santa Fe Railroad shopman. Surviving him are his only daughter, Mrs. Homer (Gertude Agnes Catherine) McNair of Kansas City; sons, Joseph J. and Fred of Newton, Frank of Los Angeles, California and George of Green River, Wyoming and his grandchildren, Dale Eugene, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fagan and Betty Jane and Dorothy Lorraine daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Homer McNair.

His funeral was held at St. Mary's church and he was buried by the side of his wife Catherine whose death occured 8 years ago, June 6, 1920. Both are buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Newton, Kansas.
