J. D. Fenley was born June 1, 1860 in St. Joseph, Mo., and died July 27, 1937, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alvin Cline of 133 South west second, Newton.

He moved to Texas with his parents in 1871 and lived there as a cowboy until he was about 25 years of age.

In entered the Santa Fe service July 2, 1903 and was continuously employed there until his retirement.
