Arthur Harms, 87, passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Wichita on Monday (Aug 30, 2010). Arthur was born on April 3, 1923, in Newton to Henry and Elizabeth (Gaede) Harms. He served in the Navy during World War II. On May 15, 1971, he married Jean (Bullock) Harms in Wichita. For 52 years, he worked as a sheet metal worker for Kirkpatrick Plumbing and Climate Control. He was in the Newton American Legion and, at one time, served as post commander. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Arthur loved to garden and loved his pets. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Newton; daughters, Cheryl and Mike McEuen of Rose Hill, and Darla Kasper and Kevin Searl of Newton; grandson, Dustin Arthur Stevens; granddaughter, Kaylee Jean Marie Kasper; and brother, Henry Harms of Lakewood, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Ruben Harms. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Caring Hands Humane Society.
