Police Court Business

Judge von der Heiden had quite a grist this morning, ending in convictions. Charles McLain, Otho Stanley, and Frank Carrier were the defendants. McLain and Dan Strawmatt were accosted last night on Main street by Frank Carrier, who deliberately stepped on Strawmatt's foot. This led to an exchange of compliments, etc., but Strawmatt would not fight. The three finally went into Lew Ball's where they found Stanley, who was flourishing a kinfe. Stanley and McLain got into an exchange of compliments deal, which developed into a scrap. Night Watch Spratt happened in and collared Stanley and McLain. On the way to the cooler, Carrier overtook the party and acted pretty foxey. Spratt let McLain go and took Carrier in tow.

This morning, Stanley's case was continued till Monday at 2 o'clock, his brother signing the bond. Carrier was found guilty of disturbing the peace and fined $5 and costs, amounting to $13.05, which he will work out on the rock pile. Carrier swore out a complaint against McLain and he was taxed $5 and costs, amounting to $9.50.
