Eugene R. Quint, 97, of Newton, died Monday (Nov. 1, 2010) at Asbury Park in Newton.

He was born on May 6, 1913, in Victoria, the son of John P.A. and Catherine Windholz Quint. He graduated from high school in Victoria. On Nov. 6, 1939, Eugene married Mary Katherine Schmidt in Victoria. The Quints moved from Russell to Newton in the fall of 1949. He was a former meat cutter for Safeway. Eugene was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Newton; one son, Eugene Quint of Newton; one daughter, Rita Quint of Wichita; two grandsons, Mike and John Quint; and two sisters, Viola Kuhn of Russell and Norma Jean Fellers of Hays. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Virgil Quint; and four sisters, Rena Brungardt, Mary Ellen Leiker, Elaine Sanders and Enda Goetz.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
