Elaine Rose Hasenbank, 100, died Monday (April 26, 2004) at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton.


She was born March 20, 1904, to Dr. Warren E. and Louise Elizabeth (Arnold) Rose in Okawville, Ill. They preceded her in death. She married Alvin L. Hasenbank in 1947. He preceded her in death April 3, 1988.

She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Newton. She held various lay positions in church. She was an honorary member and past president of the Ladies Reading Circle. She also was a member of Roundtable. She was a graduate of Bethel College and attended the University of Wisconsin and Emporia State University. In addition to four years in a one-room rural school, she spent 40 years teaching third grade in Newton. She served in offices as president, secretary and treasurer in the Newton Teachers Association. She was very proud of recently attaining her 100th birthday and looked forward to spending time with her nephew on his visits back to Kansas.

Survivors include a nephew, Dr. Bruce Loganbill of Villa Park, Calif.

She also was preceded in death by: a sister, Warrene Loganbill; and a nephew.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James W. Anderson of First United Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Walter and Elsbeth Hohmann Scholarship Fund at Bethel College in care of the funeral home.
