Virgil Fay Havens, 93, died Friday (Nov. 5, 2010) at Asbury Park care facility.

He was born Sept. 7, 1917, in Newton, the son of Floyd and Lily (DeWalt) Havens and was a lifelong resident of Newton.
Virgil married Mary Alice Bigger on Feb. 22, 1944, and the family grew with the addition of six children. He retired from the city of Newton after serving as parks department/ flood control manager for many years.

Virgil is survived by five sons, Allan of Colorado, John of Colorado, Maurice of Wichita, James of Newton and Douglas of Rose Hill; and one daughter, Theresa Nightingale of Newton.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.

His wife Mary preceded Virgil in death in 1973. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Vernon; and three sisters, Hazel, Helen and Gladys.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Peterson Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Bill Eichelberger of Good Shepherd Hospice officiating. Burial will follow the service at Restlawn Gardens of Memory, Kansas Highway 50 in Newton. Memorial donations may be made to Asbury Park Retirement Community in care of the funeral home, 215 N. Main St., Newton, KS 67114.
