Swann, Gladys

Gladys E. Swann, 87, of Burrton, died Monday (Dec. 6, 1999) at Hutchinson Hospital.

She was born April 4, 1912, in Burrton to Lester and Ada (Murphy) Day. She married Ollen Swann June 4, 1939, in Burrton. He survives.

She was a lifetime Burrton resident. She was a graduate of Hutchinson Junior College and Emporia State University with a teaching degree. She was a teacher for 43 years at Union Valley and Prosperity schools in the Buhler district, Wildrose in Harvey County and Fairview and Plevna in Reno County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Burrton, 4-H leader for 19 years, Kansas Sunchasers, Family Campers, Kansas Education Association, National Education Association and Burrton United Methodist Women's Society.

Other survivors include: two sons, Ronald Swann of Wichita and Robert Swann of Goddard; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, William Swann, and two brothers, Harold Day and Giles Day.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Burrton with the Rev. Larry Ankrom presiding. Burial will follow in the Burrton Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with Burrton United Methodist Women in care of First United Methodist Church in Burrton.
