Carol Marie Cook, 61, of Newton died Friday (May 31, 2002) at her residence.

She was born March 25, 1941, in Newton to Warren and Helen (Kirchmer) Tipton. She married Chilson Cook Jan. 23, 1970. He survives of the home. She attended First Church of the Nazarene in Newton and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made afghans for the Newton Police Department. She liked to read, and grandchildren were an important part of her life. She had a fondness for classic country music. She attended Newton High School and graduated from Humbolt High School.

Other survivors include: her mother, Helen Tipton of Newton; step-son, Wayne Cook of Newton; four daughters, Arleen Boyles, Terri Bockhaus and Kathy Terbovich, all of Newton, and Connie Knifong of Brookfield, Mo.; a brother, Michael Tipton of McPherson; a sister, Barbara Alexander of Newton; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father; and two brothers, James Robert Tipton and Thomas Ray Tipton.

Services will be at 2 pm. Monday at First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Bernie Dickson of the church officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established with First Church of the Nazarene in care of the funeral home.
