Charles Lloyd "Charlie" Quiring, 76, 705 S.E. Fourth, died Sunday (Oct. 4, 1998) at his home.

He was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Goessel to Henry and Helen (Lehrman) Quiring. He married Dorothy Mae Lipps Oct. 8, 1946, in Newton. She survives. He was a meat cutter, retiring from Dillons after 25 years. He worked as a meat cutter at Charlsen's market before working at Dillons. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and American Legion. He was an Air Force veteran, enlisting in September 1942 and serving the duration of World War II. He was a sergeant. His decorations and citations include American Theater ribbon and the World War II victory medal. He was in "Pride of the Prairie" barbershop quartet.

Other survivors include: one son, Charles Quiring of Hutchinson; one daughter, Carol Silvergalt of McKinney, Texas; one brother, Frank Quiring of North Newton; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold Quiring and Otto Quiring.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Gloe officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
