Spinden, Fred



Fred O. Spinden, 73, retired farmer and stockman, died Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2000) at his home.

He was born Aug. 30, 1927, to Fred Samuel and Ethel R. (Gray) Spinden in Newton. They preceded him in death. He married Edith Langenegger June 18, 1950, at Ebenezer Church. She survives. He lived in the Harvey County all of his life except for the time he spent in the Army from 1946 to 1947. He served with the Signal Corps. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: a son and his wife, Sam and Rebecca Spinden of rural Burns; three daughters and their husbands, Mary Frances and Harold Busenitz of Whitewater, Helen and Douglas Wiebe of rural Whitewater, and Shirley and Larry Brooks of Newton; two brothers, Bill Spinden of Bazaar and John Spinden of Cottonwood Falls, three sisters, Ruth Ferro of Springhill, Fla., Mary Beth Argo-Collett of Marion and June Countryman of Wichita; and 14 grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Chalmers Spinden.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Burns. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. Memorials have been established with Ebenezer United Methodist Church and Hospice Inc. in care of the Carlson Funeral Home, 200 S. Star St., El Dorado, KS 67042.
