Murphy, Harold



Harold Dale Murphy was called to heaven on Thursday (Dec. 2, 2010).

He was born on Oct. 16, 1943, in Newton and raised in Sedgwick, where he graduated from Sedgwick High School.
He attended Hutchinson Junior College in Hutchinson.
Harold played football for Texas Western College, now UTEP, where he graduated with a bachelor of science. and master’s degree in education. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired as a physical education teacher after 39 years of service, most of which was at Collins Elementary.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Matthew Murphy; daughters, Audra Wick and Tanya Cisneros; sons-in-law, David L. Wick Jr. and Lyndon J. Cisneros; brother, Robert Murphy of Newton; sisters, Wanda Graham of Whitewater and Loranie Blevins of Warrensburg, Mo.; grandchildren, Olivia, Isaac and Sabrina; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lela, and sister, Virginia Diggs.

The visitation was Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast in El Paso, Texas, followed by a vigil. Funeral mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
