Jeraldine G (Klein) Schmidt

Jeraldine (Jerry) G. Schmidt, 65, of Newton died Thursday (Dec. 10, 1998) at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 9, 1933, in Peabody to Jacob S. and Martha V. (Franzen) Klein. On Oct. 5, 1952, she married Robert M. Schmidt in Peabody. He survives of Newton. She was a homemaker and had worked at Beeline Fashions. She was a member of Flatlanders Buckle Club in Wichita and National Association of Belt Buckle Collectors, where she served as board member and secretary. She graduated from Peabody High School in 1951 and attended Emporia State University. She loved fishing, music, shopping, cooking, playing piano and organ and traveling.

Other survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Schmidt of Liberal and Randy Schmidt of Carthage, Mo.; three sisters, Joey Landes of Long Island, N.Y., Thelma Layton of Wichita and Ruby Friesen of Hillsboro; two brothers, Marvin Klein of Wichita and Hubert Klein of Medford, Okla.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David Wayne Schmidt; her parents; and a sister, Velma Fay Klein.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Salem United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. C. Kent Rogers of the church officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Visitation is from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials may be sent to Salem United Methodist Church and Central Homecare and Hospice Inc. in care of the funeral home.
