Obituary

Louise H. Balzer, 84, retired school teacher, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000) at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 18, 1926, to David H. and Helena (Peters) Schroeder in Mountain Lake, Minn. They preceded her in death. She married Arthur Balzer Jan. 1, 1942, in Mountain Lake, Minn. He survives. She graduated from Bethel College and earned her master's degree from Emporia State University. She taught economics for 34 years before retiring. She was a member of Grace Hill Mennonite Church.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Ann Balzer Doerksen of Newton, two brothers, Menno Schroeder and Robert Schroeder, both of Mountain Lake, Minn.; two sisters, Pauline Balzer of Whitewater and Edna Nickel of Mountain Lake, Minn.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Hill Mennonite Church Cemetery. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Hill Mennonite Church with Pastor James Voth officiating. Memorials have been established with Bethel College and the kitchen fund at Grace Hill Mennonite Church in care of the funeral home.
