Wedel, Lady



Lady K. Pepper-Wedel, 44, 623 S. Plum, manufacturers representative for building supplies for Graber Ace Lumber, died Wednesday (Jan. 13, 1999) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus.

She was born July 13, 1954, in Beaumont, Texas, to C.D. Jr. & Lady L. (Pearson) Carter. Her mother survives of Mexia, Texas. She married Benjamin D. Wedel Oct. 19, 1984, in Newton. He survives of the home. She moved to many different places while growing up because her father worked for an oil company. She enjoyed Alaska. She was a graduate of Bishop-Carroll Catholic High School and attended Wichita State University for two years, where she studied liberal arts. She was a licensed auctioneer in Missouri and Kansas and co-owner of Bell Pepper Auction Company. She learned and worked in many aspects of house construction, traveled with remodeling display companies and learned to speak fluent French as a young person. She also worked for Fort Jefferson National Park in the Florida Keys.

Other survivors include: two step-sons, Travis Wedel and Jase Wedel, both of Newton; step-father, Bob Fain of Mexia, Texas; two sisters, Elizabeth "Beth" Odom of Oklahoma City and Nancy M. Didier of Newton; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Mennonite Church with the Revs. Clarence Rempel and Rusty Bonham officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton at a later date. Friends may sign the register book until 9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with Benjamin Wedel Family Fund at Commercial Federal Savings Bank or Newton Public Library in care of the funeral home.
