Jeremy Alan "Shorty" Chard, 29, died Friday (April 1, 2005) at Newton Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 19, 1975, to Daniel Phenneger of Sedgwick, Deborah Walker of Halstead and adoptive father Terry Chard of Wichita. He married Janet Hoag of Newton July 6, 2002. She and their unborn child survive. He graduated from Newton High School. Jeremy also was a member of Meridian Baptist Church. He attended vocational technical college for welding. He worked as an assembler for the Full Vision company of Newton. Jeremy was a black belt in Choi Kwang Do. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding horses. Another favorite pastime was racing quads. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt Jr. NASCAR fan. He enjoyed watching his children grow up. Jeremy also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2516.

Other survivors include: his grandparents, Bill and Barbara Chard of Newton, Betty Walker of Halstead, Donald "Red" Walker of Halstead, Lois Robinson of Wichita and Howard Phenneger of Sedgwick; mother-in-law, Unetta Hoag of Newton; a brother, Daniel Phenneger Jr. of Sedgwick; sons, Dakota and Dawson Chard of Newton; daughter, Shelbie Chard of Newton; sisters, Kendra and Keylee Phenneger of Sedgwick; sisters-in-law, Denise of Park City and Kristi of Newton; and brother-in-law, Wade Hoag of Newton.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (Apr. 5) and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family greeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, all at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday (Apr. 7) at Meridian Baptist Church in Newton. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials have been established with Choi Kwang Do in care of the funeral home.
