Mullet, David

Miller-Ott Funeral Home

David LeRoy Mullet, 90, passed away on Friday (Jan. 14, 2011) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

He was born on July 2, 1920, in Glendive, Mont., the son of David J. and Maude Kauffman Mullet. He graduated in 1961 from Hesston College with an associates of arts degree. He was a farmer, and one of the founders of Excel Industries Inc., where he served as president from 1962 until his retirement in 1985. Roy was a member of Hesston Mennonite Church in Hesston, and was past president of the Hesston school board. He was a member of the Hesston College Board of Overseers from 1967 to 1972, and a charter member of Hesston College Partners. On March 20, 1943, he married Bessie Johnson in Bloomfield, Mont. She survives.

Other survivors include his sons, David and wife, Jan of Bloomfield, Mont., Bob and wife, Janie of Hesston, Paul and wife, Teresa of Hesston, Steve and wife, Phyllis of Bloomfield, Mont., and Mick and wife, Linda of Kansas City, Mo.; brothers, Tim of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ernest of Glendive, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry, William and Lloyd; and sisters, Florence Mullet and Mary Nissley.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Schowalter Villa Chapel in Hesston and also from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Hesston. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hesston Mennonite Church. Pastors Cheryl Hershberger and John Murray will officiate. Private burial will take place at Hesston City Cemetery.
