Wanda Lee (Welty) Headrick, 75, Hesston, passed from this life on Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2011) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, after an extended illness.

Wanda was born on Oct. 11, 1935, in Newton to Gerhard and Idell (McFarlane) Welty. Wanda spent her childhood years between Kansas and California. Wanda worked at Full Vision in Newton and Hesston Mennonite Church, and was owner/employee of Fabrics, Etc. in Hesston, Sunday school teacher and school board member, and she provided day care out of her home for numerous years. Wanda enjoyed crochet and knitting, and the extended family was some of the honored recipients of her fruits of labor. Weddings, births, Christmas and many other special occasions often meant Wanda would be hard at work creating yet another gift of love. Wanda enjoyed making gifts for those in need as well. She knitted hundreds and hundreds of hats during the years that were given to Hesston Resource Center and MCC for children who were less fortunate than her own.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lloyd Headrick of Hesston; daughters, Denise (Bruce) Krase of Whitewater; Peggy (Marlin) Sieber of Mansfield, Ill.; Jackie Headrick of Newton; and her son, Kyle (Terri) Headrick of rural Hesston. Wanda was the grandmother to Nick (Kylie) Dillon, Luke (Tiffany Huxman) Dillon, Kelli (Stan) McClurg, Alli Krase, Lyndsey (fiancé, Josh Jantz) Sieber, Breanne (Travis) Creamer, Travis (Aimee) Sieber, Libby (Larry) Kleeman and Nikki (Adam) Huntington. Wanda also was great-grandmother to Drew and Cole Dillon, Lyndon Dillon, Rylee Creamer, Brayden and Brynlee Sieber, Jackson and Jordan Kleeman and Spencer Huntington. Wanda also is survived by a sister, Bonnie (Bob) Scheid of Hesston, and a brother, Earl (Sharon) Welty of Sunland, Calif.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hesston Mennonite Church, 309 S. Main St. in Hesston. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Eastlawn Cemetery, rural Hesston, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Hesston Mennonite Church. Pastors John Murray and Cheryl Hershberger will officiate. Memorials may be designated to Hesston Mennonite Church in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster, Hesston, KS 67062.
