Newton Evening Kansan Republican, Friday, November 21, 1924

Mrs. Mary F. Byers, aged 89, who has made her home with her brother, C. H. Frase of Fostoria, Ohio, for the last 30 years, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1924. Her death was the result of complications of old age.

No children were born to this union bu Mrs. Byers was devoted and faithful in her love and care for the three children of her husband left motherless by the death of his first wife. These children, Mrs. Lavina longaere, Riverbrook, Calif., Mrs. Linnah Stock, Indianapolis, Ind., and S. P. Byers of Peabody, Kan., the brother C. H. Frase, and many friends survive her.

Mrs. Byers was the eldest of a family of four girls and six boys. She was Familiarly known as "Aunt Mary" and love all who knew her. She was a devoted Christian and throughout her lingering illness was patient, appreciative and uncomplaining. Her church membership was in the Methodist Episcopal church at Peabody.

The family came from Indiana to Kansas in 1886 and resided on the farm , known as the Byers farm, near Newton until the death of Reverend Byers, July 18, 1893. Thus the family helped make up that vanguard group who, through peril and hardships, laid the foundation of the Sunflower state ideals in prayer, faith and love.
