BRANINE FUNERAL
Funeral services for Mildred Axtell Branine, wife of Alden E. Branine, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. The Rev. John Covey will officiate.
The family requests that no flowers be sent, but contributions may be made to the American Cancer Fund through St. Matthew's Church.
Mrs. Branine, a daughter of the late Dr. John T. and Dr. Lucena C. Axtell, was born and lived all her life in Newton. Her college years were spent at the University of Kansas and Kansas State College, where she was affiliated with Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She was a music major in college and continued her study of piano later at the Chicago Conservatory of Music. Art, books and music were her abiding interests all her life and she was very active in the cultural and social life in the community.
She was married to Mr. Branine on August 8, 1918 in Newton. Four daughters and one son, who died in infancy, were born to them.
Mrs. Branine was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, the Junior Reading Circle and the Society of the Colonial Dames in Kansas.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Mrs. John H. (Rosemary) Roberts of Covina, Calif.; Mrs. Victor (Elizabeth) McCall of Kansas City and Miss Nancy Branine of Newton. Mrs. James (Jeanne) Gould died in 1952. Also surviving are six grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. John L. Grove, Mrs. Harold M. Glover and Mrs. George Hanna of Newton.
