Meetz, Harry



Harry L. Meetz, 90, 206 S.W. 12th, farmer and stockman, died Sunday (Feb. 7, 1999) at his residence.He was born Sept. 23, 1908, in rural Newton to Henry and Sophie (Grapongater) Meetz. He married Gladys Koch Aug. 8, 1937, in Haven. She survives of Newton.He was a former member of Walton Lions Club and was a Harvey County Fair Beef Superintendent for many years. He served as president of the Harvey County Free Fair. He enjoyed all sports and being around people.Other survivors include: two sons, Jim Meetz of Dighton and John Meetz of Wichita; one daughter, Betty Youk of Durham; one sister, Alberta Maxwell of Longview, Texas; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Meetz and Carl Meetz; and three sisters, Meta Benfer, Elizabeth Hiene and Clara Scherer.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Newton with Pastor Larry Frank officiating. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home.Memorials have been established with Peace Lutheran Church or Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
