Private John Adams

Word was received by Mr. and Mrs John Quincy Adams of Macon township, that their elder son, Private John Adams of the U. S. Infantry, was killed in action on the Italian front, May 31, 1944. News dispatches of that date related the struggle on the environs of Rome. It is conjectured that John was among the victims of the stubborn fighting that ensued. He was a messenger as well as a bugler, and his duties led him into dangerous places.

He was a native of Harvey county and the product of its school systems going from his home distric to Newton high school where he was graduated with the class of 1943.

He entered the service of his country eight months earlier and had been overseas since March, celebrating his twentieth birthday on forgein soil shortly before his death. He was a member of Co. L, 7th Infantry, 3rd Regiment.


He was deeply loved by his family and close friends who mourn his passing deeply. It is probable that he will be returned home later for permanent interment.

Besides his patents he is survived by his younger brother, Eldon, his sister Janice, his maternal grandfather, W. C. Bold of Pittsburg; Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Adams of Buffalo, Mo., long time residents of Harvey county; and his father's sisters, Mrs. Frank Vetter of Newton; Mrs. George Freeburg of Halstead; Mrs. Frank Swanson of Matfield Green, and their families. He was the first of the fourteen grandchildren to be taken.
