Edna M. Schmidt
Edna M. Schmidt, 99, 200 S.W. 14th, homemaker, died Saturday (Dec. 4, 1999) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community.
She was born July 2, 1900, in rural Newton to Joshua and Cecilia Ogilvy (Spalding) Briggs. She married Arthur H. Schmidt April 9, 1925, in Newton. He preceded her in death July 8, 1979.
She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Themian Club, Comwolei Club, Laura Fukada Circle, co-worker for Sunday school and past member of Friendly Acres Auxiliary.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, playing cards and gardening.
Survivors include: two sons, Orville E. Schmidt and Robert M. Schmidt, both of Newton; one daughter, Virginia Payer Olson of Wichita; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Briggs.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. C. Kent Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Peterson Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with Salem United Methodist Church or Friendly Acres Retirement Community in care of the funeral home.
