SMOLAN — Mary D. Tschetter, 97, teacher and homemaker, died on Friday (March 25, 2011) at her residence.

She was born on April 15, 1913, in Newton to Peter F. and Sarah (Duerksen) Quiring. On Aug. 6, 1940, she married Paul W. Tschetter in Goessel. He survives at home in Smolan.

Other survivors include sons: Alan Tschetter of Shelbourn Falls, Mass., John (Linnea) Tschetter of Nashau, Iowa, and Thomas (Susan) Tschetter of St. Louis; daughters, Evelyn Tschetter of Salina; Lois (Bruce) Hoyt of Oamaru, New Zealand, Martha (Ronald) Holder of Knoxville, Tenn., and Irene (David) Totel of Phoenix; brother, Herbert (Akiko) Quiring of Sedalia, Colo.; sister, Susan Wedel of Laramie, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Tschetter; daughter, Wilma Tschetter; and brothers, Karl, Paul, Frank and Ralph Quiring.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday (Mar 28) at Halstead Cemetery in Halstead. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Covenant Church of Salina, with the Rev. Doug McHenry officiating. Memorials may be given to Missionary Aviation Fellowship in care of Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead.
