Lina Karleina (Goertz) Wyss

Gottlieb and his wife are buried about half way down on the east side of the cemetery next to the field.

Gottlieb Wyss arrived in the USA on the ship Canada from Havre on 28 June 1883. Gottlieb was a 32 year old labour.

Gottlieb Wyss died this morning at 11:00 after an illiness of several
weeks. He leaves behind 5 small children the oldest being only seven years old. The mother died last spring. Funeral services to be held Sunday. The Modern Woodmen will have charge.

According to a letter writen to Dorthy Wyss in 1943 Gottlied was from Ripischberg and Lina came from Kuezenburg Kanton Bern Schweiz.

In the annual account of the Guardian of the estate and person of Paul Wyss, Willie Wyss, Lina Wyss, John Wyss, Mary Wyss. There is a amount received from insurance of $2000.00, money collected $200.00 and interest of $165.00.
This report is dated 18 Jan 1894, so all of the above money was received in 1893. In the report dated January 1895 there is a notation of receiving money from Switzerland in the amount of $76.25. In the report of January of 1896 there is a notation of receiving money from a Steam Ship Company of $53.55 According to the guardian's record the properity was sold to Abraham I. Schowalter on the 28 day of May 1901 and recorded at 4:30 PM on page 354 of book 37 deeds. The properity is decribed as follows as lot three and the south half of lot 2 in block 23 in the city of Halstead according to the recorded plat of said city.
The properity here was purchased July 22 1884 from Jacob Stanph and Margarretha for the price of 325 dollars.

Carolina arrived in the USA on the ship Canada from Havre on 28 June 1883. She was listed on the ships registry as Lina a 23 year old. Goertz may or may not have been her maiden name.

Friday evening March 11 at her home, Mrs G. Wyss died. The funeral services were held at the German M. E. Church Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. Lange. The deceased leaves a husband and 5 children of which the youngest was 9 days old at the time of her death to mourn her loss.

Mrs. D. Weiss living on the Swartley place died last Friday. Funeral was held at the German Methodist Church Saturday afternoon. She leaves behind a husband and 5 small children the youngest being only a few weeks old.
According to a letter writen to Dorthy Wyss in 1943 the correct spelling was Karleina Wyss.

Lydia was adopted by Mrs Swartley before she was married. Lydia was very heavy in stature was a teacher in Spearville Kansas was older then the rest of the Swartley children. The previous is probably not correct. Lydia was buried in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City Kansas. Mary Wyss was adopted by John R. Swartley and Kate Swartley on the 8th of
December 1897 and had her name changed to Lydia Swartley.
