HALSTEAD -- Vera Vinita Castleberry, 87, died Thursday (May 20, 2004) at Halstead Health & Rehabilitation Center in Halstead.

She was born May 8, 1917, to Doc William M. and Maude B. (Lovelace) Johnson in Ponotoc, Okla. She married Eddie Castleberry in Supher, Okla. He preceded her in death Feb. 24, 1977.

She was a homemaker and worked in several restaurants during her lifetime.

Survivors include: a son, Billy Castleberry of Newton; five daughters, Pauline Regier of Burrton, Martha Molze of El Dorado Springs, Mo., Joan Young of St. John, June Langley of Asheville, N.C., and Christine Budde of Newton; 31 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by: four sisters, Vivian Cash, Leta Lyn, Ida Williams and an infant; two brothers, Clifton Johnson and Merle Johnson; a son, Edward Castleberry; two daughters, Betty Pratt and Shirley Voth; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home with Chaplain Peter Hartman officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and Halstead Health & Rehabilitation Center, both in care of the funeral home.
