Speer, Marjorie

The Newton Kansan

Kansan, Saturday, July 10, 1926.

Marjorie Myrtle Speer, was born Feb. 9th, 1904, in Pontiac, Ill.; died July 6th, 1926, in Newton, Kansas, age 22 years 4 months and 27 days.

She came to Kansas with her parents when four years of age and received her education in the Newton public schools, graduating from the High School in the class of 1921. She also took a four year course at Bethel Colllege, receiving he A. B. degree in the class of 1925. During these four years of college work, she was also the home maker for her father and performed both duties cheerfully and well.

During the last school year 1925-1926, she taught in the rural high school at Radium, Kansas. Her plan and desire for the coming year, was to again assume the duties of a home maker for her father.

Marjorie was a child of the Covenant, having been baptized in infancy in the First Presbyterian church in Pontiac, Ill., and received into full communion of the Presbyterian church of Newton Kansas, on her confirmation of Faith, when 12 years of age.

She lived the happy wholesome life of a Christian young person. She loved life and wished to live life's sake and for others, nevertheless she was not afraid to die and knew at the end that it was near and was ready.

"We live in deeds, not years; in thoughts not breaths;

In feelings, not in figures on the dial.

We should count time by heart throbs. He most lives.

Who thinks most, feels noblest, acts the best."
