Allen, William L.

Sedgwick Pantagraph

William L. Allen, son of Amasa and Rhoda Quite Allen was born July 21, 1897 on a farm southeast of Sedgwick and departed this life in the Veteran's Hospital in Wichita on July 28, 1961, age 64 years 7 days. He died of injuries received in an automobile accident west of Wichita on June 21, 1961 at K42 and Hoover. He grew up in the Sedgwick community attending the Sedgwick schools and graduating from the Sedgwick High School in 1917.

He voluntered for service in World War I, and served with the A.E.F. in France.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Olive Corkill on October 29, 1921 at Newton, Kansas. For some time they made their home in Langdon, Kansas and became members of the Langdon Christian Church. He was also a member of the Valley Center Masonic Lodge #364, the Wichita Consistory, Midian Shrine and a charter member of the Hicks-Davison Post of the American Legioin.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sisters; Mrs. Charles Kennedy and Mrs. Ardel Race of Sedgwick, and Mrs. Lucy Laughry of Alamenea, Kansas.

Services were held July 30 at the Sedgwick Christian Church with burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick. Graveside services were conducted by the American Legion.
