John J. Hunt was born in South Carolina, August 17, 1924 and died at Burrton, Kansas April 22, 1912 at the age of 87 years, 8 months, 5 days,

He was married to Miss Mary Eliza Cook in Mississippi Oct 13, 1842. To this uion were born eight children, five of whom are living. Mrs. P. A. Moore, Mrs. Florence Myers, both of Burrton, Mrs. S. E. Ballard of Carl Junction, Mo; Mrs. H. R. Collins of Little Rock, Ark. and J. W. Hunt of McCloud, Oklahoma.

Brother Hunt removed from Mississippi to Kansas in 1872 and located on a farm southwest of Burrton. He later moved to Burrton and engaged in business which he conducted for a number of years. But when Oklahoma opened up in 1889, he believing there were great opportunities in a new country, moved there where he remained until January 1908 when, with his invalid companion came back to Burrton where they have both since passed.

Brother Hunt united with the Baptist church about sixty years ago. In 1866 he united with the Christian Church.

Funeral services were held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. P. A. Moore whom he has made his home for sometime. Interment was made in the Burrton Cemetery.
