Bright, Daisy

The Newton Kansan

Daisy Bright, 78, died Friday (Feb. 25, 2000) at her residence.

She was born Sept. 6, 1921, in Kingswood, England, to Bert and Edith Maye (Brimble) Smith. She grew up in England and married Glenn E. Bright Jan. 14, 1944. She came to the United States in January 1947. She lived in Newton most of the rest of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She worked as a secretary for USD 373 for about 16 years and as a District Court clerk for 11 years before retiring in 1983. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Bert Smith, Clifford Smith, Raymond Smith and Leonard Smith; and a sister, May Lewington.

Survivors include: two sons, Charley Bright of Porter, Okla., and Glenn Bright of Newton; a daughter, Pauline Casey of Newton; a sister, Ruby Payne of Bristol, England; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Verney Unruh, hospice chaplain, officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or Central Homecare and Hospice
